COUNTY CHAMPION AT STRATHAVEN
Jenny Potter (Cathkin Braes), playing in her second Lanarkshire county final - she lost her first at Bothwell Castle in 2012, got her hands on the trophy today by beating former champion Susan Wood (Drumpellier) by one hole in the final at Strathaven GC.
The final was played in torrential rain but Potter got off to a flying start with wins at the first, second, fifth and sixth to be four up before Wood rallied to square the match by winning the 10th, 12th (birdie), 13th and 15th.
Jenny Potter, pictured above with the trophy by Jean Macintyre, regained the lead with a birdie at the par-5 16th - her second of the round - and the last two holes were halved.
Jenny beat the No 1 seed, Emma Caddow, earlier in the match-play. She was the No 8 qualifier while Susan Wood was the No 10 qualifier.
Wood was also beaten in last year's final
Potter was a one-hole winner over Kirsten Brown (Strathaven), at No 5 the highest surviving seed, in the morning semi-finals.
In the other tie, Wood scored a 7 and 5 victory over the 1985 champion Pat Hutton (Lanark).
Potter and Wood teamed up to win the 2012 Scottish women's foursomes title.
