AUSTIN, Texas –
The Western New Mexico University men's golf team, pictured above, is set for Nationals after placing fifth following the third and final round of the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional at the Grey Rock Golf Course Wednesday.
WNMU fought through to tally a 315 to end with a 903 (295-293-315) to place fifth. St. Edward's remained in control as the host school ended with an 878 to beat the 20-team field by 16-strokes. Midwestern State's Derek Oland won on the individual side with a 212, three-shots ahead of the field. Chico State and Hawaii-Hilo (894) tied for second, CSU-Monterey Bay (897) finished just ahead of the Mustangs in fourth, while Simon Fraser grabbed the sixth and final spot to Nationals with a 904. 
Sophomores Thomas Neve (Epsom, England) and Calum Hill (Kinross, Scotland) led the way tying for 17th with 224s. Neve used rounds of 70, 75 and 79, while Hill fired rounds of 71, 75 and 78. Neve's 70 tied freshman Harry Wetton (Bedford, England) for the low round on the team. Wetton was just a shot behind in a tie for 23rd with a 225 (74-70-81). Senior David Metz (Tucson, Arizona) carded the best round of the day for the Mustangs with a 77 to end with a 230 following an opening round 80 and middle round 73. Sophomore Ben Skinner (Hertfordshire, England/Lorretto Academy) rounded out the scores for WNMU with a 244 (82-79-83) to tie for 100th.
Hill was amongst the leaders in par-5 scoring tallying a seven-under three round total. Hill and Metz added eagles during the final round Wednesday, while Hill recorded 10 birdies.
The Mustangs will now venture to Michigan for the Championships that will take place May 19-23 at the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Michigan.
 This marks the first time since 2010 that WNMU has advanced to Nationals, that year they placed second in Regionals and then grabbed seventh at the Championships in Indiana.
