NAMED CONFERENCE PLAYER OF
YEAR, SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF YEAR
University of Alabama final-year student Stephanie Meadow from Jordanstown, Northern Ireland has added another honour to her career list of accolades.
The Southeastern Conference coaches have selected her as the league's Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Meadow was chosen as both the SEC Golfer of the Year and the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year. She was also tabbed first team All-SEC for the fourth time in her career, becoming the first Alabama player to accomplish the feat.
Meadow currently leads the SEC and ranks fourth nationally in stroke average at 71.24. The 2013 SEC individual medalist, she finished the 2014 event tied for fifth at 3-over-par 219.
Meadow becomes just the second athlete in SEC history to garner the award in back-to-back years, joining Georgia's Vicki Goetze (1992 and 1993), and is the fourth two-time recipient of the honoUr all-time. Meadow also became the second multi-time winner of the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, and she is the first golfer in SEC history to win both the Golfer of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolades in back-to-back years.
She currently holds a 4.0 grade point average in accounting and has been on the Dean's List at Alabama each semester of her collegiate career.
Meadow is just the third golfer in SEC history to garner both Golfer of the Year and Scholar-Athlete in the same year. Meadow (2013 and 2014) is joined by Tennessee's Violeta Retamoza (2005) and Arkansas' Stacy Lewis (2008) as the only student-athlete to accomplish that feat.
It is the fifth straight year an Alabama player has earned SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year with Brooke Pancake winning in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
