DAVIDSON GIRL, ONLY 15, EMIGRATED TO QUEENSLAND SIX YEARS AGO

KARIS IS 'SECRET' SCOT IN THE TOP

TEN OF THE ST RULE TROPHY

If you count up the Scots in the leading 10 of the St Rule Trophy tournament with the final round to be played Sunday morning over the Old Course, you will almost certainly come up with a total of
TWO - second-placed Jess Meek from Carnoustie Ladies and third-placed Clara Young (North Berwick) who will join Jess at the University of Missouri in August.

But you would be wrong to stop at two. There is a third Scottish-born girl in joint 10th place. Her name is Karis Davidson and she is entered from Sanctuary Cove, Australia.
Karis, pictured right, is 15 years of age and her family emigrated from Scotland to Queensland six years ago.
She has a handicap of +2 and a terrific tournament record in Australia and not just Under-18 girls golf.
For instance, she was runner-up in this year's Australian women;s amateur championship.
Karis is world ranked No 59 and in Australia is ranked third behind the world No 1 female amateur Minjee Lee and the world No 4 Su-Hyun Oh.
Karis and her dad Graham have been back in Scotland for the past four weeks but this is the first time she has played links golf.
If we had known she was Scottish and coming back to Scotland, if only on holiday, Karis could have played in the Scottish women's amateur championship at Prestwick the week before last!
Presumably her main tournament on this trip is the British women's open amateur championship at Royal St George's GC, Kent near the end of June.
But, I have not spoken to Karis or her dad yet so it is all second-hand information but, I stress, from a usually very reliable source!
Will check it out on Sunday when I will be in attendance at the final round of the St Rule Trophy and, as I did last year, I will be putting up the final totals on Kirkwoodgolf.co.uk and also current positions if available after I have taken pictures of the last batch of players to tee of from in front of the R and A building.
Also planning to head up to Panmure Golf Club later in the day for the closing stages of the Carrick Neill Scottish men's open amateur stroke-play championship - so it's going to be very busy Sunday for yours truly. But I wouldn't have it any other way!
REVISED WORLD AMATEUR RANKINGS
Karis Davidson, at No 59, is actually the highest-placed Scottish-born player in the world rankings.
Which I find an astonishing and at the same time exciting piece of information!
Connie Jaffrey comes next at 61st, followed by Curtis Cup Scots Gemma Dryburgh and Eilidh Briggs at Nos 74 and 124 respectively.
Here are the top Scots in the WAGR
No 59 Karis Davidson
No 61 Connie Jaffrey
No 75 Gemma Dryburgh
No 124 Eilidh Briggs
No 202 Ailsa Summers
No 371 Lauren Whyte
No 426 Alyson McKechin
No 508 Gabrielle MacDonald
No 511 Rachael Watton
No 517 Jess Meek
Selected ranking:
No 1057 Clark Young.
