DUKE REGAIN TEAM TITLE AND DORIS CHEN IS NUMBER 1 INDIVIDUAL
STEPHANIE MEADOWS TIES FOR
4th PLACE IN NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
Former British amateur champion Stephanie Meadow (Alabama University) from Jordanstown, Northern Ireland, was the highest placed of the GB and I Curtis Cup team members who played in the NCAA Women's College Championship at Tulsa Country Club, Oklahoma.
Stephanie signed off with a splendid last round of four-under-par 66 over the 6194yd course for a total of one-under 279 and joint fourth place in the field of 126 of the best female players on the US college circuit.
Meadow's earlier rounds were 76, 69 and 68. She finished five strokes behind the winner of the individual title, Doris Chen (Southern California University) (67-72-68-67 for 274 and a two-shot win from runner-up Celine Boutier (Duke) from France, who was beaten finalist in the British girls open amateur championship at Gullane three or four years ago.
Boutier shot 70-70-67-69 for 276.
The team title was won by Duke who thus regained their former position as the top ladies' college team in America.
Duke (1130) won by two shots from Southern California (1132) and third-placed UCLA (1145).
Next came Oklahoma (1147) and Arizona State (1150).
Meadow's Alabama team were a disappointing ninth on 1161.
North Carolina State, for whom Scot Rachael Taylor was a team member, finished T10 on 1163.
Tulane University, New Orleans, whose team included Aberdeen-born Gemma Dryburgh, like Meadows, Bronte Law (UCLA) and Charlotte Thomas (Washington) bound for St Louis, Missouri to defend the Curtis Cup won at Nairn GC two years ago, would also have been disappointed with a T15 final placing on 1166.
Washington finished 17th on 1167.
England's Hayley Davis, not a member of the GB and I team and playing as an individual at Tulsa because Baylor did not qualify as a team, finished second best of the British/Irish players.
The Dorset student had scores of 79, 71, 68 and a brilliant final round of 65 for a total of 283 and joint 10th place.
Charlotte Thomas finished T67 on 291 (74-75-70-72).
Bronte Law finished T50 pm 293 with scores of 74, 73, 75 and 71.
Gemma Dryburgh shared 67th position on 295 with scores of 80, 73, 71 and 71.
Rachael Taylor, whose parents are Germany-based, finished T113 on 306 with scores of 76, 78, 77 and 75.
