TWO ROUNDS NEW COURSE SATURDAY, ONE ROUND OLD COURSE SUNDAY

Gabrielle MacDonald watches her approach shot to the 18th green in the 100th Scottish women's amateur championship final. Left is her boyfriend and caddie, Guy Dalziel.
Thanks to a bit of detective work by Mary Richardson of the SLGA, we can now reveal that it is St Regulus Club, St Andrews member Lorraine Morrow who is the spectator in the middle.

NEW SCOTTISH CHAMPION GABRIELLE

PLAYS IN REVAMPED ST RULE TROPHY

Gabrielle MacDonald (Craigielaw) will play in the 54-hole St Rule Trophy tournament at St Andrews this weekend - her first outing since being crowned the 100th Scottish women's amateur champion at Prestwick last Saturday.
It will be interesting to see how the 21-year-old from Edinburgh copes with the burden of  other people's expectations, not necessarily her own!. Gabrielle, as national champion, will be favourite to win every event she plays in Scotland.
Before she beat 17-year-old Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) at the 19th hole of the final at Prestwic, Gabs, as she likes to be known, said that finishing fifth (behind winner and St Andrews University team-mate Ailsa Summers) in last year's St Rule Trophy was her highest achievement in golf.
MacDonald will certainly be familiar with the New and Old Courses, one of the golfing perks of being a St Andrews student.
She is just completed the third year of a geography degree course and one of her classmates, Gary Dalziel, is not only her boyfriend but he caddied every step of the way at Prestwick.
Also in the star-studded field for an event which has become one of the highlights of the amateur women's calendar are Lucy Goddard (Hanbury Manor), winner of the Irish women's open amateur stroke-play title last Sunday, Meghan MacLaren (Wellingborough), winner of that title in 2013, and a contender for a Curtis Cup team place until the last few weeks of the rankings' race, Scottish championship beaten finalist Connie Jaffrey and semi-finalist Megan Briggs, the 2009 Scottish champion.
A different format for the St Rule Trophy will be introduced this weekend. Instead of having the second and third rounds over the Old Course on Sunday, the programme will be 36 holes over the New Course on Saturday with a fresh draw for the final round on Sunday morning.
This is thought to be a more competitor-friendly schedule, particularly for the far-travelled ones who have not been able to start off back home until late on the Sunday evening, particularly when there has to be a play-off.
There will be no 36-hole cut but with an 8am start, the tournament should be completed by mid-afternoon. The leading players at the end of Saturday will go off last in the Sunday draw.
Alison White, chairman of the organising committee said:
"Despite the newly selected GB and  I team for the Curtis Cup match being unable to play as they are already in America having preparatory practice sessions, the entry for the St Rule Trophy was oversubscribed by 100% at the closing date for entry.
"The field comprises 60 players and this includes entrants from: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Scotland, England, France, Ireland, USA and Wales.
