HARTPURY TAKE TEAM HONOURS AT GANTON
TRURO'S HARRY HALL TOP OF BRITISH
SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES CLASS
PRESS RELEASE
FROM DAVID QUIN
Ganton Golf Club, Yorkshire was the venue for this year's British Schools and Colleges National
finals. The prestigious course, one of only three courses to host the Ryder
Cup, Curtis Cup and Walker Cup matches, was in spectacular condition as usual.
The
first day of the tournament was slightly windy with a few showers.
Hartpury player and current leader of the British Schools and Colleges
order of merit, Tom Sloman, came in with a three-under-par 70 to take
the individual lead.
Lee
Westwood School's Henry Tetley was in second spot with a 71,
followed by Kieran Sutton, Daniel Godin and Jack Valentine on 72, 73 and 73
respectively.
Hartpury
led the team event after the first day's play with a combined score of
297, eight shots ahead of Elmwood. A further two strokes back were the Golf College.
The
new format of a two-day event for team and individuals proved a great
success with the field of 118 players, all bidding for trophies and prizes from sponsors
GALVIN GREEN and Heraldic Gems.
The
second day's play got off to a fine start with calmer weather and some
sunny skies. Hartpury kept their nerve and held onto their lead to take
the trophy by 11 shots from the Lee Westwood School, Essex.
In the
team handicap competition it came down to a count back in which the
Golf College came out on top over the Lee Westwood School, Cheshire.
In
the individual competition, Truro’s Harry Hall
came in with a total of 144, winning on count back from
Sussex Downs player Daniel Godin.
In third place was Lee Westwood School's Joe Fryer with a total of 145.
In
the girls' competition, a hard fought match saw Gee won Park win on
count back from the Golf College's Shannon Flynn with an aggregate of
154.
