This year’s Fairhaven Junior Trophies championship saw a high-class entry of 144 of Europe's leading players at the Lytham St Annes, Lancashire venue, which was again in great condition and saw some exceptional golf and scoring, against a CSS 75.
The Fairhaven Nations Cup, played over the first 36 holes, was a very close affair but finally won after a card play off by England (4) with a total of 290.
The team comprising of Hollie Muse (West Lancashire), Oliver Farrell (Evesham) and Jamie Li (Bath), beat compatriots England (1) Sophie Keech (Parkstone), Marco Penge (Golf at Goodwood) and Bradley Moore (Kedleston Park GC), following a better 2nd round total.
Following some great golf, which saw the lead change hands several times the Girls championship was won by the defending champion, Sophie Lamb (Clitheroe), with a great score of 291, 9 under par, following rounds of 76, 74, 71 and 70.
Sophie's third-round 71 saw her take the lead which she did not relinquish as she stormed through the final 18 holes with a great round of five-under-par 70, including 7 birdies.
Runner-up in the Girls championship was Hollie Muse with rounds of 75, 74, 73 and 75, for a 3 under par total of 297.
The Boys championship was also won by the defending champion, Marco Penge, who led from start to finish, after an opening round of 3 under par 69, which he followed up with rounds of 70, 70 and 72 for a total of 281, 7 under par.
Never easy to defend a title but Marco carried it off in style, eventually winning by seven shots. He will no doubt be a contender for Walker Cup honours next year, when the match is played at neighbouring Royal Lytham and St Annes.
Runner-up was Matty Lamb (Hexham) with rounds of 72, 72, 73 and 71 for a level par total of 288.
