Conover, North Carolina – Lynn University’s women’s golf team is midway through
competition at the NCAA Division II National Championship but collected
some major awards at the Women’s Golf Coaches Association banquet.
Jessica Bradley from North Devon, England was named the Division II PING Player of the Year while head coach Danny Randolph was honoured as the WGCA Coach of the Year.
Bradley becomes the first women’s golfer, and fifth student-athlete for any sport at Lynn, to be named the national player of the year while Randolph is the second coach in program history, and seventh amongst all coaches in school history, to collect coach of the year accolades.
This also marks just the second time, and first since 1997, Lynn has had two First Team All-Americans.
The top-ranked golfer in Division II, Bradley posted single-season program records for stroke average (73.45) and top-10 finishes (12) while also tying the school mark with three tournament victories.
The Bishops Nympton, England, native also owns the career record for top-10 finishes (24) and is second in stroke average (75.63). Her stroke average led the nation this season as she was also named the Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golfer of the Year, joining Maha Haddioui as the only women’s golfers to take the league’s top honour.
“I feel very honoured and privileged to win this award,” said Bradley. “It’s been a great year for both the team and myself and to be recognized in this way as the WGCA Player of the Year means so much to me.”
Randolph has brought the Fighting Knights’ women’s golf program to new heights since becoming head coach in 2012, winning 19 tournaments during his tenure.
"I am very honoured to win this award as the head women's golf coach at Lynn University," said Randolph. "This is a team award that represents not only myself but the administration at Lynn, my assistant coach Carrie Rowe and our players."
Lynn University is currently bidding to win a second consecutive national title. They have a big lead going into the final round.
