MUNOZ AND ERNST SHARE LEAD WITH
65s IN KINGSMILL CHAMPIONSHIP
FROM THE SKY SPORTS WEBSITE
A perfect six-under-par 65 helped earn Azahara Munoz a share of the lead at a blustery LPGA Tour's Kingsmill Championship.
The Spaniard carded six birdies to move to the top of the leaderboard alongside American Austin Ernst."The pins were somehow accessible," said Munoz.
"Obviously the course is playing much shorter than normal because it's warmer and drier. The greens roll nice, so it's really nice to putt. If you hit a good putt, it's going to go in."
Ernst’s round included an eagle at the par-five third and five birdies, although she blotted her copybook with a bogey.
Munoz and Ernst are a shot clear of South Korean Park Hee-Young, with Thidapa Suwannapura, Brittany Lang, Cristie Kerr, Kathleen Ekey, Danielle Kang, Lizette Salas and Lexi Thompson all tied on four-under.
Defending champion Kerr had pulled out of the pro-am of Wednesday with heat exhaustion and a possible infection and needed intravenous fluids at hospital.
And she was understandably pleased with her opening round.
"I hung in there, made some good birdies and kind of got it going in the right direction after the 10th hole," Kerr said.
BRITWATCH: Charley Hull shot a one-under-par 70 to be sharing 29th place. Wales' Becky Morgan had a 72 for a share of 62nd place.
Jodi Ewart Shadoff is T79 after a 73.
Karen Stupples will be struggling to beat the cut after a 75 which leaves her in joint 111th place.
Catriona Matthew is not playing in this event.
