MARIA DUNNE WINS ILGU/TITLEIST

SCRATCH CUP CIRCUIT

 

At the culmination of six exciting tournaments, Maria Dunne (Skerries) topped the table of Ireland’s elite amateur golfers to win the 2014 ILGU/Titleist Ladies Scratch Cup Circuit after claiming her second Scratch Cup of the season at Royal Portrush, Sunday 18 May.
Trailing Chloe Ryan (Castletroy) and Olivia Mehaffey (RCD Ladies) after the first event at Royal Co. Down, Maria toped the table with a win the following weekend at Woodbrook. 

A joint third place finish at Cork saw her lead cut to just 20 points as Mehaffey closed the gap, but her solid 148 total in the wintry conditions at Royal Portrush last weekend saw her extend her winning margin to 32 points. 

Co. Louth’s Deirdre Smith leap frogged the field with a fourth place finish on Sunday to finish second in the overall standings with Mehaffey in third, ahead of Jessica Ross (Donaghadee) and Gillian O’Leary (The Island).
With 4 events from 6 to count, points were awarded to players with scores within 3 strokes of the Competition Scratch Score (CSS) at each event.
