RAMSAY BEATS SUMMERS IN CLASSIC
ANGUS WOMEN'S MATCH-PLAY FINAL
The bid by Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie Ladies) to win the Angus women's county golf championship for a sixth time in a row was thwarted by twice former title-winner Ann Ramsay, pictured, playing over her home course at Kirriemuir, in the final today (Sunday).
Ramsay, champion in 2000 (when Kirriemuir last hosted the championship ) and again in 2001, beat Summers by one hole in a quality final with birdies galore.
The first birdie came at the short eighth which Ramsay won with a 2 to take a one-hole
lead. Summers squared it with a birdie at the 11th.
Ramsay hit back with a winning birdie at the 12th but a birdie by Summers at the next, despite have driven into the ditch, levelled matters once again.
After even more birdies, the players were all square on the 18th tee.
Fittingly, Ramsay produced yet another birdie to win a classic final by one hole.
In the morning semi-finals, Ramsay won by one hole against Alyth's Jacqueline Sneddon who holed her second shot at the first for an eagle 2.
In the other tie, Summers had seven birdies in beating Gillian Monteith by 5 and 4.
In the Handicap Championship final, Christine Orr (Carnoustie Caledonian), last year's runner-up, won by 5 and 3 against Louise Rigg (Ladies Panmure Barry).
