YOUNGSTERS KO THE FAVOURITES IN MELDRUM HOUSE SEMI-FINALS
SHANNON (14) v KIMBERLEY (18) IN
YOUNGEST ABERDEENSHIRE FINAL
This afternoon's Aberdeenshire women's county championship final features two of the youngest ever finalists - and they are both from Aboyne - 14-year Shannon McWilliam (pictured above in action this afternoon) and 18-year-old Kimberley Beveridge, pictured below in the final.
They beat their more fancied - and older - opponents in this morning's semi-finals at Meldrum House Golf Club, Oldmeldrum.
McWilliam, last year's Scottish U14 girls champion, KOd the defending champion, Sammy Lesle (Aberdeen Ladies) by two holes, birdieing the short 18th to clinch a place in the final.
Shannon reached the quarter-finals but, like Kimberley Beveridge, this is her first appearance in the county final.
Kimberley beat the five times past champion, Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies) in another close contest that went to the 18th green before Beveridge prevailed by one hole.
The final tees off at 2.40pm just as the rain came on. The first hole was halved in par 4s, Shannon missing a 4ft birdie putt chance.
And just to underline what a great day for the youngsters was the fact that 14-year-old Jasmine Mackintosh (Hazlehead) won the Handicap championship final.
Playing off seven of a handicap, Jasmine beat the experienced Lynne Terry (Cruden Bay) by 4 and 3.
