CHAMPIONS MIDLOTHIAN LOSE FIRST
MATCH TO FIFE AT NORTH BERWICK
Scottish champions Midlothian's hopes of retaining the East Division inter-county women's team title at North Berwick don't look too good at the end of the first day.
Fife beat Midlothian 5 1/2 -3 1/2 while East Lothian edged a 5-4 win over a Stirling and Clackmannan line-up that included former Curtis Cup player and past British champion Alison (Rose) Davidson.
East Lothian trailed 1-2 after the foursomes but took the singles 4-2, thanks to wins by Mary Lou Watkins, Charlotte Munro, Liz Dunn-Butler and Keren Ward.
Fife took the foursomes 2-1 against Midlothian and also the singles 3 1/2-2 1/2 with afternoon/evening wins by Susan Jackson, Lorna McKinlay and former Scottish champion Elaine Moffat. Lorna Bennett halved her match.
