USA LEAD 7-2 AFTER DAY 2 FOUR-BALLS AT CURTIS CUP
ANNABEL AND BRONTE ARE GB AND
IRELAND'S FIRST WINNERS!
United States have extended their four-point overnight lead to a 7-2 advantage by taking the Day 2 morning four-balls 2-1 at the 38th Curtis Cup match at St Louis Country Club, Missouri.
But at least GB and Ireland have broken the ice as far as a game victory is concerned.
Gillian Kirkwood writes: Bronte Law and Annabel Dimmock won the last three holes to record a one-hole win against Erynne Lee and Annie Park.
Bronte holed a 20ft putt for a birdie at the 16th; she was conceded her putt for a win on 17th, and Annabel got down in 4 on the last, lagging a 40ft putt to 18 inches. An American ball was much closer but both US players took 5.
The British reticence at applauding a missed putt changed into a cheer when we realised Bronte and Annabel had won.
Let's hope that this gives the GB and I team room the fillip they need and we come out fighting this afternoon. First match will be at 3:45pm local time.
The Americans' two victories this morning were achieved by Kyung Kim and Alison Lee, who beat GB and I's top world-ranked pair, Stephanie Meadow and Georgie Hall, 4 and 2 in the lead-off tie this morning, and by Emma Talley and Mariah Stackhouse who were two up after 15 against Gabriella Cowley and Gemma Dryburgh and won the point by a 2 and 1 margin.
