BARB MOXNESS WINS LEGENDS TOUR
PLAY-OFF AGAINST ALICIA DIBOS
ROSWELL, Georgia – Barb Moxness earned her second career win on The
Legends Tour today when she edged two-time defending champion Alicia Dibos in the
third annual Judson Collegiate and Legends Pro-Am Challenge
Both Moxness and Dibos
carded scores of 3-under 68 in regulation in the 18-hole tournament held at the
Country Club of Roswell.
Dibos, originally from Peru, led at 4-under par
through 16 holes, while Moxness had completed her round of 68.
A bogey on No. 17 dropped
Dibos into a tie with Moxness. The South American had a six-foot birdie chance
on the 18th hole, but her putt to win the event slid past the hole,
forcing a playoff between the two veteran LPGA pros.
Moxness and Dibos matched
birdies on the first playoff hole – the par-five 18th – and returned
to No. 18 for the second extra hole. On her approach shot, Moxness reached the
green in two shots with a 3-wood, landing 10 feet below the hole. She missed
her putt for eagle, but easily tapped in for birdie.
Dibos’ approach found a
right greenside bunker and her bunker shot rolled 25 feet past the hole. Dibos
was unable to make her birdie putt to force an extra hole, giving Moxness the
victory.
“It’s been about 10 years
since I last won, so this is a real treat,” said Moxness of Edina, Minnesota., who holed out from the fairway for an
eagle-3 on the par-five 13th hole.
Moxness pocketed $15,000 for her win. Val Skinner of Bayhead, N.J., Sweden’s Liselotte Neumann and Rosie Jones of Atlanta tied for third at one-under 70.
The tournament showcases the
talents of 60 collegiate women golfers who played alongside 30 LPGA Legends
professionals in today’s opening round. The college
players will compete in a separate three-day event Saturday through Monday,
June 30, which counts toward World Amateur Golf Rankings.
