Angus regained the North Division women's inter-county team championship at Pitlochry Golf Club today.
In their final match, Angus, title-winners in 2012, beat defending champions Aberdeenshire 5 1/2-3 1/2. while Northern Counties, who were the main rivals to Angus at the start of the day, surprisingly lost to host Perth and Kinross 5 1/2-3 1/2
So Angus will go to the Scottish women's county finals at Hilton Park GC, Glasgow from September 19 to 21 as North champions. They qualified despite the absence of one of their best players, Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie Ladies), who is at Royal St George's GC, Kent for the British women's amateur championship.
But Heather Munro, bound for Elon University, North Carolina in August and almost certainly unavailable for the county finals, starred for Angus with 5pt out of six - the best record of any player at the tournament..
Heather was closely followed by Katie Reid (4 1/2pt) and county champion Ann Ramsay and Gillian Monteith, both on 4pt.
Northern Counties, for whom Cara Thompson was their top points scorer with 5pt, finished runners-up.
Aberdeenshire and Perth and Kinross tied for third place with 2pt.
The Angus v Aberdeenshire match was finely balanced at 1 1/2pt apiece after the foursomes but Angus took the singles 4-2, thanks to wins by Gllian Monteith, Jacqueline Sneddon, Heather Munro and Jemma Chalmers.
Similarly, Northern Counties and Perth and Kinross were level at 1 1/2pt each after their foursomes.
But P and K, beaten on Saturday and again on Sunday, finally came good to  produce their best session of play. They snuffed out Northern Counties' title prospects by taking the singles 4-2 with wins by Laura Walker, Steph Crolla, Eilidh Watson and Jen Saxton.
