JANE REES WINS EUROPEAN SENIOR
WOMEN'S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
Hendon-based Welsh international Jane Rees is the new European senior women's amateur champion.
She won the title over 54 holes at RCG Puerta de Hierro, Madrid today with rounds of 75, 76 and 72 for seven-over-par total of 223.
Overnight leader Maria de Orueta, playing at her
home course, finished runner-up, seven strokes behind Janes, with scores of 74, 73 and a disastrous last round of 83.
Finland's Minna Kaarnalahti and Ireland's Sheena McElroy tied for third place on 232.
Minna had scores of 78, 77 and 77, Sheena 77, 77 and 78.
No Scottish or English players took part in the championship.
