WORLD UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

GOOD DAY FOR AMI STORY WITH

ONE-UNDER 71IN SWITZERLAND

FROM Dr ROB MACPHERSON

Thursday was another tough day for both the British Men's and Women's Teams at the 15th World University Golf Championships at Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland, as both slipped out of medal contention and moved the wrong way down the field.
An exceptional performance from Ami Storey (Univ of Northumbria; Close House), pictured, in shooting 71 (-1)

was unable to bolster the Women's Team

struggling with injury and illness: Katie

Bradbury (Univ of Exeter; Cottrell Park) adding 80 (+8) to her

overnight total; and Hannah McCook (Univ of Stirling; Abernethy)

added an 83 (+11) to her previous rounds.

Ami shot five birdies in her round, the highlight being a 25f

downhill double-breaker for 2 at the tricky island green par 3 13th.

Ami said "I really enjoyed the course today and thought it was a

very good test of golf. I played well and hope that I can finish the

week on a high".

The GB women's team remain tenth after three rounds, behind

Spain, the United States and Japan.

For the men, Laurie Potter (Univ of Exter; Minchinhampton) was

the best scorer with a 75 (+3) for a +5 total - however this was

some  distance behind a brilliant round of 64 (-8) by Gerardo Ruiz

(Mexico) who now leads the competition overall on -9 from

overnight leaders Emilio Cuaetero (Spain) on -8 and Gavin Green

(Malaysia) on -5.
Craig Chalmers (Univ of Strathclyde; Cawder) struggled early on and, despite a one under par second nine, could only manage a 77 (+5).
Andrew Wilson (Univ of Northumbria; Darlington) also struggled in

the early morning sunshine, finishing with 79 (+7), the same score

as fourth player Tom Beasley (Univ of St Andrews; Hunstanton).

The British Men's team have slipped to tenth overall, behind leaders Spain, second placed Japan and third placed Canada. The competition concludes on Friday.
