MATCH-PLAY RUNS TO FORM AT MONTROSE LINKS

TOP SEEDS CRUISE INTO NORTH OF

SCOTLAND SEMI-FINALS

Top seeds Jacqueline Sneddon (Alyth) and Carnoustie Ladies' Ailsa Summers cruised into the semi-finals of the North of Scotland women's amateur championship for the Gifford Trophy with two comfortable wins today.
Leading qualifier Sneddon, who played on the US college circuit during her student days in America,  took only 2hr 10min to beat Lynne Tough (Newmachar) 7 and 6 in the opening tie of the
match-play stages.
Then the Alyth player knocked out the Angus county champion Ann Ramsay (Kirriemuir) with a 5 and 4 victory.
No 2 seed Summers (Carnoustie Ladies) beat two US college students during the day, first Hannah Robb (Scotscraig) 6 and 5 and then Katie Reid (Monifieth) 5 and 3.
Reid had beaten the 2001 and 20012 champion, Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies), by 2 and 1 in the first round.

Title-holder Claire Prouse (Hazlehead) was beaten 4 and 3 in the quarter-finals by Aboyne teenager Kimberley Beveridge who meets Sneddon with a place in the final at stake.
Beveridge reached the final of the Aberdeenshire women's county championship a few weeks ago.
St Andrews University student Summers, winner of the St Rule Trophy last year at St Andrews, will play Eilidh Watson (Muckhart) in the other.
semi-final.
Eilidh won the North of Scotland girls championship at Deeside last summer.
The tournament enjoyed a sunny day in contrast to some other Angus golf courses which were closed due to flooding.
