MIRREN FRASER AND JOANNE FREE GO DOWN FIGHTING
HEATHER MUNRO v FIONA LIDDELL IN
SCOTTISH U18 GIRLS FINAL
After the shock defeats of Clara Young and Connie Jaffrey yesterday, the form book worked out well in this morning's semi-finals of the Scottish Under-18 girls (close) championship at Dumfries and County.
Heather Munro (Monifieth), the No 4 seed, will play the No 2 seed, Fiona Liddell (Gutersloh) in the final this afternoon.
But it looked as if we were in for a couple of more "upsets" at one stage of the semi-finals.
Munro beat Joanne Free (Gullane) by one hole after Joanne was one up at the turn and still one up after 16 holes.
Munro pulled victory out of the bab but winning the 17th and 18th with par figures.
Much the same story in the Mirren Fraser v Fiona Liddell semi-final.
Fraser was two up after eight holes and still two up after 13.
Liddell square the contest by winning the 14th and 15th with pars.
Fraser was not finished yet. The Powfoot player birdied the short 16th to regain a one-hole lead.
But Liddell, based in Germany where her dad is a club professional, countered witth a birdied 3 to square the match against the 17th.
Fraser bogeyed the 18th to give Liddell a one-hole victory after a very good match, as was the first semi-final.
RESULTS
Semi-finals
Heather Munro (Monifieth) bt Joanne Free (Gullane) 1 hole.
Fiona Liddell (Gutersloh, Germany) bt Mirren Fraser (Powfoot) 1 hole.
