LOCAL FAVOURITE SUZANNE CORCORAN IN SEMI-FINALS

AT IRISH SENIOR LADIES CH/SHIP

 

Local favourite and defending champion Suzanne Corcoran (Portumna) defeated Catherine Reilly (The Heath) to reach the semi-finals of the ILGU’s Irish Senior Women’s Close Championship at Athenry Golf Club, Thursday 3 July.

In defence of her title won last year at Woodenbridge, Corcoran will now face fellow seniors’ international Carol Wickham (Laytown & Bettystown) who eagled the first extra tie hole to defeat Gertie McMullen (The Island) in their quarter final tie.

 

In the top half, Mary Dowling (Mallow) caused an upset defeating the leading qualifier and current international Pat Doran (Donabate) on the home green and now progresses to tomorrow’s semis against Laura Webb who defeated past seniors’ close champion Sheena McElroy (Grange) on sixteen.

 

In the Plate, Ruth Maguire (Corrstown) will play Kate Evans (RCD Ladies) in tomorrow morning’s first semi-final while Pauline Walsh (Headfort) will take on Niamh Giblin (Dun Laoghaire) in the second semi-final.
