RICOH WOMEN'S BRITISH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP LAST DAY

MO MARTIN WINS TITLE AFTER INBEE

Mo Martin, one of the lesser known Americans, certainly on this side of the Atlantic, is the new Ricoh Women's British Open champion.
She followed in the footsteps of compatriot Stacy Lewis, winner at St Andrews last year, with scores of 69, 69, 77 and 72 for one-under-par 287.
Mo was the only player in the star-studded field to finish under par for the 72 holes - a tribute to the severity of the Royal Birkdale links for the major championship.
Thanks to an eagle at the 18th, Martin won by one shot from China's Shanshan Feng who bogeyed the 16th. Her rounds were 73, 71, 69 and 75.
Norway's Suzann Pettersen tied for second place on level par 288 with scores of 72, 73, 68 and 75.
Inbee Park, leader earlier in the day, "lost" it over an inward half of 41 blow for a cloising 77. She finished fourth on 289 with scores of 72, 72, 68 and 77.
Park needed a birdie at one of the closing holes to force a play-off with Martin following a double bogey 6 at the 10th and further shots shet at the 11th and 14th. Instead the South Korean bogeyed the last hole - a three-shot swing in Martin's favour  at that 72nd hole along.
Veteran warhorse Laura Davies was the leading British finisher - not all that many survived the halfway cut - with scores of 75, 72, 72 and 73 for a share of ninth place.
Young Charley Hull tied for 12th on 293 (73-76-66-78)
An American also finished the leading amateur. Emma Talley finished on 294 (72-75-76-73) to outlast the only other amateur who made the cut, former British amateur champion Georgia Hall who scored 73, 72, 78 and 74 for 297. Hall was joint leading amateur at St Andrews 12 months ago.
Vikki Laing finished with a sad 80, running up a quadruple bogey 7 at the par-3 12th after a doouble bogey 6 at the second.  She also bogeyed the first and 16th.
Her only birdie of the final day came at the long 18th.
In fact, the Musselburgh player might have won the championship had it been played over only the last two holes.
Remember she had an albatross 2 there in a 68 on Friday. Vikki was seven under par for the 17th and 18th over the 72 holes.
