TWENTY-FIVE PLAYERS SURVIVE RICOH WOMEN'S BRITISH OPEN FIRST QUALIFIER
FROM THE LADIES GOLF UNION WEBSITE
The top 25 players from Monday’s pre-qualifier for the Ricoh Women’s
British Open at The Berkshire Golf Club will now head to Southport and
Ainsdale next week, with their hopes of taking part in the Ricoh Women’s
British Open at Royal Birkdale from 10-13 July still intact.
Leading qualifier was Welsh veteran Becky Brewerton with a 4-under
score of 68, one shot ahead of a group of five players, including
another Welsh player, Amy Boulden, a member of the winning 2012 Great
Britain & Ireland Curtis Cup team.
Of the 25 players, 11 were from England, with 6 of these players being
amateurs. These included Sarah-Jane Boyd, the 2012 Ladies’ British
Strokeplay Champion. Scottish interest in next Monday’s final qualifier
was kept alive when both Laura Murray and Jane Turner secured their
places.
There was disappointment for the remaining 74 players, including
former Solheim Cup player Melissa Reid and past LET winner Carly Booth
In all, 12 countries were represented by the 25 players who will now
make the journey north for the next phase of the qualifying process on
Monday 7th July.
Many thanks to everyone at The Berkshire for their support of this
pre-qualifying competition, and spectators are very welcome at Southport
and Ainsdale Golf Club next week.
