CHAMPIONSHIP AT MASSERENE, N IRELAND

CLARA YOUNG LEADING SCOT IN

ROUND 1 OF BRITISH GIRLS' Q/FYING

The later starters in the first qualifying round of the British girls' open amateur championship at Masserene Golf Club, Northern Ireland, had to contend with lashing rain.

Scottish U18 girls champion Fiona Liddell, who missed last week's girls' home internationals because she has been in America looking at prospective universities for 2016-2020, had the misfortune to tee off after 2pm.
She had a seven-over-par 80, as much due to the weather as anything else. German-born and based. Fiona, daughter of a Scots pro in Germany, will start the second Q round in joint 67th place - which is outwith the qualifying zone for the match-play stages which begin on Wednesday.
The other three Scots in the field should make it through in the leading 64.
Clara Young (North Berwick), pictured above, is joint 10th with a 76 while the Troon Ladies pair of Connie Jaffrey and Emma Hale are sharing 39th place on the 78 mark.
Leading the field by two shots is Italy's Ludovica Farina with a two-under-par 71
