SCOT (15) IS RISING STAR OF AUSSIE GOLF

KARIS DAVIDSON: SCOTS-BORN RISING

It's unlikely that the Scottish Ladies Golf Association will send a team of three to the inaugural World Under-18 girls championship at Markham Golf Club, Ontatio from September 26 to October 1 but there will be one Scot in the field.
She's Innerleithen-born Karis Davidson who has been making a name for herself as a rising star of the future in Australia where her family emigrated to Queensland six years ago.
Karis is only 15 going on 16 years old but she has a handicap of +2, was beaten by the world 1 female amateur Minjee Lee in the final of the Aussie women's amateur championship this year and is No 3 in the women's amateur rankings Down Under.
In the World Amateur Rankings, Miss Davidson is the top Scottish-born player at No 54 (Curtis Cup player Gemma Dryburgh is No 73 and Connie Jaffrey No 81).
So the news from her mother Faye is that her daughter has been selected by Australia
to be one of their team of three for the World girls championship at the end of the month.
Next year's GB and I Vagliano Trophy team of nine to play the Continent of Europe at Malone Golf Club, Belfast, will have places automatically awarded to the leading eligible players in the world amateur rankings, which will almost certainly include Karis Davidson.
Here's hoping the Ladies Golf Union officials are aware that  K Davidson (Australia) is actually a Scot.

+In case you might think that Karis having played for Australia is not qualified to play in the Vagliano Trophy - or the Curtis Cup, for that matter - the Rules of Eligibility for both GB and I team contests read:
"Any player is qualified to represent:
a) Great Britain and Ireland, who is born a citizen ..."
