England South win the Vets Jamboree... Scotland finish third

GILLIAN KIRKWOOD REPORTS
The Scots are extremely disappointed but can hold their heads up high as they won two matches out of three in the Veteran Ladies Golf Association Jamboree at Wallasey Golf Club.
We always knew that our match against England South would be the BIG one.  We had won our previous two matches by 5-4, and we HAD to halve or beat England South to win the Jamboree.
If they won they were going to beat us on count back.
We halved the morning foursomes 1 1/2 each.  Sheena Wood and Lesley Lloyd continued their winning streak with a 4/3 win over Jane Rees and Kate Evans.

It was cancelled out by Fiona de Vries and Anne Ryan's 4/3 loss to Carol Weir and Amanda Mayne.  Our third couple, Alison Bartlett and Alex Glennie halved every hole from the twelfth for a halved match against Katherine Russell and Debbie Richards.
Scottish Seniors Champion, Alison Bartlett, led out the singles but unfortunately lost to Jane Rees by 4/2.  Sheena Wood and Felicity Christine had a tremendous battle which went down the 18th where Felicity won by one hole.

Mary Smith and Chris Quinn also went down the 18th all square and halved.  The star of the Scottish team, Lesley Lloyd, continued her winning ways with a one hole victory against Amanda Mayne.  Alex Glennie lost to Debbie Richards 3/2 and Anne Ryan lost Carole Weir 2/1... All so close but not in our favour.  The final score line was 6-3.
England North beat England Midlands by 5 matches to 4.  So three teams had won two matches each....  England North and England South had 15 winning matches.  Scotland had 13.
In order to split the two teams the conditions of the competition specified the fewest of the winning games' holes played.  North had a total of 207,  South had 195.
Well done to England South!
