OUT OF TWO AT WALLASEY
OUT OF TWO AT WALLASEY
GILLIAN KIRKWOOD REPORTS
The Scotland team can hardly believe it... We have won again on the second day of the Vets' Jamboree at Wallasey Golf Club, Merseyside.
Today we played England North... The hosts. The foursomes were the usual - 2 to 1 against.
Our top couple of Sheena Wood and Lesley Lloyd had a fantastic tussle against North's Sue Dye and Ruth Lindley and just squeezed through on the 18th with a one hole victory. Our other two foursomes both lost 3/2.
Scottish Seniors Champion, Alison Bartlett, led from the front and was never down in a 6/4 victory over Sue Dye.
Fiona de Vries was all square playing the last and had a cast iron 4 while her opponent Cath Rawthorne three putted. Sheena Wood was up against it in her match against Caroline Berry and succumbed 2/1.
Lesley Lloyd continued her excellent play and comfortably beat Janet Melville by 5/3. Mary Smith says herself that she did not play well against Gill Mellor and lost 5/4.
And then the star of the show, birthday girl, Anne Ryan, had been three up after 5 but back to square after 8. They then halved every hole until Anne won 14 and 15.
She boarded the 18th tee one up so we knew we could not lose, and another cast iron 4 at the last gave us a 4 - 2 score line in the singles and a 5-4 win.
In the other match South beat Midlands 6 matches to 3.
