ST ANDREWS IS BRIGHT SPOT IN GLOOMY STATISTICS

The more the merrier: St Regulus enjoying a junior boom.

The  average age of Scottish golf club members is 58 with women making up only 22% of golf club memberships.
A survey by England Golf in 2013 showed that, on average. golf clubs have fewer than three girl members. Yet. despite these gloomy statistics. St Regulus Ladies Golf Club in St Andrews is bucking the trend.
Following a very successful open day in March the club now has 50 junior girl members, ranging in age from eight to 17 years. The club offers monthly medals (nine and 18 holes) for the girls to play in.
In addition, fun competitions are held involving girl and adult members. The club recently held an adult-and-girl fun competition in which 20 girls and 20 adult members took part.
Earlier in the season a putting match was held between the two sections on the Himalayas course
This winter the club will be offering a winter coaching programme for the girls.

Again this is an all -female affair with the coaching being given by Julie Otto who, as a former Curtis Cup player and British amateur champion, is an excellent role model for the girls.
