CATRIONA MATTHEW SLUMPS TO SECOND-ROUND 76

BIG-HITTING BRITTANY LINCICOME

PITTSFORD, New York – Brittany “Bam Bam” Lincicome lived up to her nickname Friday, seizing the lead halfway through the Wegmans LPGA Championship, a Major event on the LPGA Tour.
Lincicome pounded her driver around Monroe Golf Club, shooting a 4-under-par 68 to take a three-shot lead over Lexi Thompson and Inbee Park.
“There is no secret why Lexi and I are at the top of the leaderboard, both long hitters taking advantage of the par 5s,” Lincicome said.
“I think I hit two 3‑woods each day out there with some bunkers that are kind of in-between yardages. But, yeah, the more I can hit driver, the better. When we go to a golf course and it takes driver out of my hand, I'm pretty bummed. So here, I'm excited.”

Lincicome put herself in position to make a run at winning her second major championship. She won the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2009. She’s a five-time LPGA winner, but winless the last three seasons.
Lincicome said she isn’t sure why she has not been getting in position to win more often.
“If you know, please tell me,” Lincicome said. “I have no idea. I think my parents would say I'm dating a boy and that's probably why, poor thing.”
Lincicome, 28, is feeling good about her game going into the weekend.
“I feel like all year I've been doing a lot of good things, hitting well, putting well, chipping well, they just don't seem to all come together on the same day,” Lincicome said.
Paula Creamer missed the cut Friday after long-time caddie Colin Cann was hospitalised because of back spasms.
It snapped a streak of 39 consecutive made cuts at majors for Creamer, who shot 5-over 77 and finished the two rounds at 6-over 150.
''Probably the hardest thing I've had to do in a long time is come out here without him,'' Creamer said. ''You feel such mixed emotions with everything. I'm not physically hurt, but my brain is in a hole. He's like my brother. We've been together 10 years and I cried.''
Creamer said Cann broke an ankle at Kingsmill in 2005 during her rookie year, and that was the last time he wasn't on the bag.
Supporting the view that is a long hitter's rather than a straight hitter's course, veteran Laura Davies is the leading British player in joint 25th place on 143 with scores of 71 and 72.
Catriona Matthew had a bad second day, requiring 76 shots to get round to drop to T44 on 146.
At least the Scot made the cut which is more than could be said for former Curtis Cup amateur star Stephanie Meadow and Yorkshire's Jodi Ewart Shadoff.
Northern Ireland's Meadow shot 75-73 for 148, the same aggregate as Shadoff with scores of 72 and 76.
