ROUND OF STRATHTYRUM TOURNEY

The high scoring in the men's Eden Tournament was repeated in the qualifying rounds of the women's Strathtyrum Tournament over the Eden and New Courses, St Andrews today (Monday).

Elizabeth Sweetnam (Woburn), who played the American college golf circuit during her days as a student over there, battled her way to a three-over-par 76 to lead the first round over the Eden Course.
Only late in the day did she have to share the pole position when German visitor Gundula Krause came in with a matching 76.

Nobody could break 80 at the par-75 New Course until one of the later starters, Heather Kitson, from Cranleigh GC, Surrey came in with a great effort of 78.
Catherine Goodwin (Glenbervie) had led until then at this venue with an 82. She was later joined by four players, including fellow Scot Jane McDonald from Dunfermline.
