WOMEN'S AMATEUR MATCH-PLAY AT EDEN COURSE
ANN RAMSAY NOT FAVOURITE AFTER
DEFEATS FOR SWEETNAM, MARSHALL
A morning of surprise results in the Strathtyrum Trophy women's tournament over the Eden Course saw first the top seed, Elizabeth Sweetnam (Woburn), beaten by Sweden's Charlotte Odman in the second round.
Then, possibly an even bigger shock - Baberton's Karen Marshall, bidding to win the title for a record-extending seventh win, lost by one hole to Christine Appleby (St Annes Old Links).
Title favourite could now be Angus county champion Ann Ramsay (Kirriemuir) who scored an 8 and 7 win over Zoe Ridgeway (Tytherington) in the morning and then a 6 and 4 victory over Ireland's Linda Cole McKenna in the afternoon..
Ann, pictured, who has never won this tournament, has played only 38 holes in beating three opponents.
She will play Sweden's Odman in the semi-finals.
The other pair battling for a place in the final will be Nottinghamshire's Carol Houghton and Stephanie Farrar (Sandiway). Stephanie was a Stirling student at one time - and also an RandA Bursar.
Jane McDonald (Pitreavie) and Selkirk's Carol Purves were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the handicap match-play for the Strathtyrum Salver.
