Aboyne's 15-year-old Shannon McWilliam completed an Aberdeenshire title double at Meldrum House today when she won the Under-18 county girls championship - four months after she won the county women's title at the same venue
Shannon, the Paul Lawrie Scottish schoolgirls champion and a past Scottish U14 girls title-winner, beat Jasmine Mackintosh, 14-year-old Hazelehad player, by one hole in the final of the
Aberdeenshire girls championship.
Two up after six holes and again after 12, McWilliam took a grip on the outcome when she won the short 15th to be three up with three to play.
Then Mackintosh staged a superb late rally with back-to-back eagles at the long 16th, where she her full third shot for a 3, and at the par-4 17th where she drove the green and holed a 5ft putt for a 2.
Only one up now, McWilliam closed out her plucky younger opponent with par-3 at the 18th, conceding Mackintosh her putt so that the official winning margin was one hole.
Chloe Henderson, 12-year-old Deeside member, won the handicap championship with a two-hole victory over 10-year-old Carmen Griffiths (Aboyne) in the final. Chloe, in receipt of two strokes, clinched victory in a ding-dong struggle by winning the last two holes.
