DENVER SOPHOMORE OUTSCORES RACHAEL WATTON


 JESSICA FROM RORY COUNTRY HAS

TOP 10 FINISH AT RED SKY G C


Jessica Carty, pictured, from Holywood, near Belfast - Rory McIlroy's home town/village, finished eighth in a field of 90 players yesterday in the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club's Fazio course (par 72, 6,249yd) in a beautiful Rocky Mountains setting in Colorado.
Jessica, a sophomore at Denver University, had scores of 72, 76 and 70 for a two-over-par aggregate of 218.
She finished eight shots behind the winner by four, Pepperdine's Marissa Chow (73-70-67 for 210).
Brogan Townend from Blackburn, a third-year student at Texas-San Antonio finished T31 on 228 (77-78-73) while Scot Rachael Watton (Denver) came T35 on 229 (75-81-73).
Becky McGeegan, from an English background in Germany and a freshman, shared 51st place with another Texas-San Antonio student, Aimee Ponte from Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands.
Becky scored 79, 76 and 78 for 233 while Aime had rounds of 79, 76 and 78.
Scots Eilidh Watson from Dollar and Paige Kemp from Essex, both freshmen at Stetson University, finished 80th and T85 respectively.
Eilidh had scores of 83, 87 and 79 for 249 while Paige shot 91, 87 and 83 for 261.
Denver (870) finished third in the team event behind Pepperdine (862) and Tennessee (863). Stetson, for whom two players did not complete the three rounds, were placed last of 17 teams.

LESLEY ATKINS OUTSIDE TOP 40 
Former Scottish girls champion Lesley Atkins from Hawick, now a student at the University of Louisiana-Monroe finished T42 in a field of 71
players at the ULM Fred Marx Invitational at Bayou DeSard Country Club, Monroe in Louisiana.
Over a par-72 course of 6,078yd, Lesley (pictured left) shot 84, 78 and 79 for 241.
Dolores Brown from Royal Cinque Ports, a sophomore student at McNeese State, Louisiana, finished T29 on 237 (78-82-77).
Winner was Paige Nelson (Sam Houston State) with rounds of 74, 70 and 73 for one-over 217.
Alison Knowles from South Yorkshire,  Louisiana-Monroe's star player over the past couple of college seasons, has disappeared off the ULM golf roster. This should have been her junior year. Maybe she did not go back to ULM after the summer holidays.

Despite her absence, Louisiana-Monroe (908) won the team title ahead of Sam Houston State (914) and Arkansas-Little Rock (930) in a field of 13 teams.

DANIELLE JUST MAKES TOP 20
 
Danielle Burrell from Basingstoke, a third-year student at Lincoln Memorial University, finished 19th of 32 in the Etowah Intercollege tournament at Etowah Valley Country Club.
Over a shortish par-72 course of 5,817yd, Danielle shot 85-81 for 166.
Winner by two shots was Elizabeth England (Carson-Newman) with scores of 73-75 for four-over-148.
