SAMANTHA GILES PIPS SOPHIE KEECH FOR LIPHOOK SCRATCH CUP

Nineteen-year-old Samantha Giles from St Mellion, Cornwall has won the Liphook Scratch Cup at the fourth attempt.

On a perfect late summer's day at the Hampshire venue, Samantha (pictured) headed 47 contestants from all over England and Wales in the 36-hole tournament.

She had rounds of 72 and 70 for a total of 142 which was also achieved by Sophie Keech (Parkstone) (70-72). Samantha won the tie-breaking countback with the better second round.

Third was Lauren Horsford from Wimbledon Park on 143 (69-74) including the low round of the day.  Carolyn Walley from Cosby was in fourth place on 145 with young Hollie Muse from West Lancs fifth on 147.
