SENIOR WOMEN'S HOME INTERNATIONALS
NORTHERN LADIES HAVE MAJOR ROLE
IN SCOTS TEAM AT HUDDERSFIELD
It is not very often that more than half the members of a Scotland international golf team come from the North and North-east of the country.
Generally, the Central Belt - for obvious reasons such as most of Scotland's population live there - provides the backbone of international teams, male and female, adults and juniors.
But four of the seven players chosen to represent Scotland in the senior women's home international matches which
start tomorrow at Huddersfield Golf Club, Yorkshire will be coming "down from the hills."
Alison
Bartlett (Royal Dornoch), sisters Anne Ryan and Mary Smith (Tain) and
Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies) are joined by Fiona de Vries (St Rule),
Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) and Lesley Lloyd (Hayston) for three
days of international competition.
De
Vries and Smith are the only survivors from the last Scotland team to
win the over-50s title in 2009. Smith was runner-up in the recent
British senior women's stroke-play championship at Royal Dornoch where
Wood and Lloyd also finished in the top 20.
The
Scots open their campaign against Wales, play England on Wednesday and then Ireland, title winners in
2012 and 2013. on Thursday.
