STIRLING UNIVERSITY INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT DAY 2 REPORT
FERGUSON AND SHARVIN LEVEL WITH
ROUND TO GO AT DUNDONALD LINKS
REPORT FROM DR ROB MACHERSON
Another flat calm and
sunny day at Dundonald Links in Ayrshire ensured that the 4th Stirling Invitational Golf Tournament moves to its conclusion on
Wednesday with a tight battle for both the men's and women's individual
trophies.
Round of the day was a four under par 68 by Ewan Ferguson (SGU
Select) which ties the 2013 British Boys Amateur champion with defending
champion Cormac Sharvin (Stirling/ Ardglass) at a two-under par total.
Robin Dawson (Maynooth) duplicated his first round level
par 72 to lie third and Craig Howie (Stirling/ Peebles) is in with an
outside chance of victory, lying one shot further back after a one under
par 71.
In the Men's Team competition, Stirling lost hold of their
trophy for the first time ever, as the SGU Select Team - Ferguson
(Bearsden), Duncan McNeill (Powfoot), Murray Naismith (Dalmahoy), Connor
Syme (Dumfries and Co), Calum Fyfe (Cawder) and Daniel Young
(Craigie Hill) - pipped them by virtue of the best fifth score.
In the ladies draw, Abertay Dundee's Nastja Banovec shot the round of the day, one under par 71, to leap to the head of affairs in front of Gemma Batty (Stirling; Formby) whose 75+74=149 leaves her one shot back.
In the ladies draw, Abertay Dundee's Nastja Banovec shot the round of the day, one under par 71, to leap to the head of affairs in front of Gemma Batty (Stirling; Formby) whose 75+74=149 leaves her one shot back.
Third
is Shannon Flynn from the Independent Schools Golf Association, as
overnight leader Shannen Brown (Maynooth) slipped back, adding an 83 to
her first round 74.
The ladies team event reverted to type, with the
impressive Stirling squad - Batty, Hannah McCook (Abernethy) and 2013
Welsh Girls Champion Nia Greville (Ashburnham) - recovering their trophy
from last year's winners ISGA (who finished third) with Maynooth five
shots adrift in second place.
