LIAM JOHNSTON MAKES  TOP TEN IN
 

FIRST EVENT OF 2014-15 SEASON

Liam Johnston from Dumfries, a senior-year student at the University of Tennessee-
Chattanooga, finished joint 10th in a field of 75 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate golf tournament at The Farm Club, Rocky Face, Georgia on Sunday.
Johnston, pictured, had rounds of 76, 66 and 70 for a total of four-under-par 212 over a 7,102yd course in his first tournament of the 2014-15 US college golf season.
Team-mate Ewan Scott, a former Scottish youths champion from St Andrews and a second-year student, finished joint 41st.
Scott had rounds of 72, 73 and 74 three-over-par 219
Winner was the world's No 1 amateur, Ollie Schniederjans (Georgia Tech) with rounds of 72, 64 and 68 for 12-under 204. He won by two shots from Robby Shelton (Alabama) (69-68-69).
Ben Taylor (Louisiana State), a senior year student from Leatherhead, Surrey, finished T16 on 213 (67-73-73).
Paul McBride (Wake Forest), a freshman from Dublin, finished T32 on 218 (74-73-71).
South Carolina (848) headed the 14 teams with Georgia Tech (849) runners-up. Louisiana State (855) finished T6,  Wake Forest (859) eighth, and Chattanooga (861) 10th.
