A CRETE RECOVERY - ALFORD PLAYER HITS BACK WITH FOUR BIRDIES

 LAURA BOUNCES BACK FROM DOUBLE

BOGEY OPENER TO A PAR 71

Laura Murray shook off the disappointment of a double bogey 6 at the first hole to return a par-matching 71 to be joint 13th at the end of the first round of the Grecotal Amirandes Ladies Open at Crete Golf Club, Hersonissos, Greece today.
The Alford player, attached to the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre, birdied the third, eighth, 13th and 17th but also bogeyed the 12th and 14th in halves of 35-36.
Next best Scot was Fife-based Heather Stirling, making a rare appearance in a LETAS developmental tour event. She shot a 73 for a share of 20th  place.
Heather, like Laura Murray a former Scottish women's amateur champion, had an early hat-trick of birdies, at the second, third and fourth, but she also had a hat-trick of bogeys from the 10th to the 13th in halves of 34-39.
Craigielaw's Jane Turner had a triple bogey 7 at the 17th. She finished with a three-over-par 75 for a share of 32nd place.
Glasgow's Gemma Websiter shot a 76 for joint 36th place.
Tonje Daffinrud (Norway), winner of last week's Azores Ladies Open, continued in fine form to set the pace with five-under 66, two shots clear of the field.
