BAD WEATHER DISRUPTS SCHEDULE FOR TOP US COLLEGE EVENT

URHAM, N.C. -- Duke posted a three-over 291 in the opening round of the Rod Myers Invitational and was four-over in the second round when play was officially suspended 5:29 p.m. at the Duke University Golf Club due to extensive lightning in the area. Teams will return to the course tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. to complete the second round and the tournament will be reduced to a 36-hole event.



North Carolina posted a 10-under 278 in the opening round and is five-under midway through the second round. East Carolina is two shots back at 13-under, while Baylor is nine-under. East Carolina is on holes 1-6 in the second round and North Carolina and Baylor are on holes 6-10. Duke is tied for seventh overall and also on holes 6-10.



Ben Griffin (North Carolina) grabbed the first round lead with a five-under 67 and is currently tied for the top spot along with George Kilgore (East Carolina) at seven-under. Griffin is through eight holes in the second round with Kilgore through six. William Register (North Carolina) is one shot back through 24 holes of play.



Freshman Jake Shuman paced the Blue Devils in the opening round with a one-under 71. After opening the day with a bogey, he ripped off birdies on No. 2, No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7 to get to three-under. Shuman remaining at three-under after a bogey-birdie stretch on No. 12 and No. 13. The Needham, Mass., native sufferred a pair of bogeys over the final five holes to post his third under-par round of the season. He is one-over through eight holes in the second round and is currently tied for 19th.



Adam Wood recorded an even-par 72 in round one and is two-over after six holes in the second round. He carded four birdies in the morning but was hindered by a double-bogey on No. 6. Wood suffered a bogey on No. 3 and a double-bogey on No. 4 but settled in with a birdie on No. 5 before play was suspended in the afternoon.



Motin Yeung and Turner Southey-Gordon each carded rounds of 74 Saturday. Yeung recorded 16 pars and a pair of bogeys in the first round but dipped to five-over through 26 holes after an early bogey and triple-bogey in the afternoon. Southey-Gordon is tied for 25th at one-over with eight holes remaining in his tournament. He recorded four birdies on the day and is one-under in his second round.



Senior Michael Ricaurte registered a 76 in the morning and two-over through eight holes in the second round. He collected four birdies on the day but was hindered by seven first round bogeys.



Andrew Bieber, a sophomore from Ohio, is tied for 25th at one-over through 29 holes. He started slow in round one with four bogeys on his opening nine (No. 10-18) before playing two-under golf on the front side with birdies on No. 3, No. 7 and No. 9. Bieber, playing as an indvidual, is even-par in the second round with two birdies and two bogeys.



Alexander Matlari is also competing as an individual and is tied for 14th with seven holes left to play. The Leimen, Germany, native posted a one-over 73 in the morning and bounced back from a slow start in round two to get to one-under overall. After bogeys on No. 3 and No. 6, Matlari eagled the par 5 seventh hole and added birdies on No. 9 and No. 11 to get to two-under in the afternoon session.



Sophomore Max Greyserman and freshman Ben Silverman were also in action Saturday. Greyserman shot a 79 in round one and is four-over after 10 holes in the second round. Silverman stumbled out of the gate en route to an 86 and was two-over in the second round through 12 holes. He birdied his last two holes before weather conditions forced the players off the course.

Play Suspended at Tar Heel Invitatinal

 
CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina– The second round of the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational was suspended Saturday as most teams were on the back nine at the 6,379-yard, par 72 Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.  Play will resume at 8:00 a.m., Sunday (LOCAL TIME)
As a team, Duke is in second place and only two shots behind first round leader, South Carolina.  The Gamecocks are six-under-par as a team, while the Blue Devils are four-under-par.  Wake Forest is three-over, NC State is six-over and Vanderbilt is 12-over to round out the top five teams.
Through 12 holes, Duke junior Celine Boutier is even-par and tied second overall behind South Carolina’s Nanna Madsen (6-under).  Sophomore Sandy Choi is four-under-par through 15 holes to move into a tie for sixth overall with a two-under score.  Choi, who is from Seoul, South Korea, has carded five birdies on the day.  Freshman Leona Maguire is even par through 15 holes and is tied eighth at one-under.
Duke freshman Lisa Maguire is even par through 15 holes, while rookie Gurbani Singh is four-over through 15 holes.
