LANDFALL TRADITION TOURNAMENT AT WILMINGTON, N CAROLINA

LEONA MAGUIRE STILL IN GOOD FORM

DURHAM, North Carolina – After hovering around the top three of the team leaderboard for most of the first round of the Landfall Tradition, the third-ranked Duke women’s golf team dropped seven shots over the final four holes to close tied 12th at the 6,159-yard, par 72 Country Club of Landfall Dye Course in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Purdue took the opening-day lead with a five-under-par, 283, while Wake Forest (286), Florida (288), UCF (289), Notre Dame (290), Alabama (290), Oklahoma State (290), North Carolina (292), Virginia (292), Tennessee (292), Ohio State (292), Duke (293), Arizona (293) and South Carolina (293) rounding out the top 12 teams.
The Blue Devils had a solid start and made the turn at two-over-par, led by freshman Gurbani Singh’s one-under, 35, to open the day.  Duke had started well on the back nine and was one-under-par through 14 holes as a team, before the Blue Devils dropped seven shots over the final four holes to finish with a 293.
Freshman Leona Maguire continued her hot start to open her collegiate career with an even-par 72, and is tied 21st overall. 

Maguire, who is from Cavan, Ireland, birdied the long sixth, 10th and 14th. She bogeyed the seventh, 11th and 18th.
Leona Maguire hit 16 greens, 14 fairways and had 33 putts on the day.
She has now carded even or under-par rounds in nine of 10 collegiate outings.
South Carolina’s Nanna Madsen took the individual lead on day one with a six-under-par, 66, while UCF’s Ashley Holder is second with a 67.
Playing in her second collegiate tournament, Singh posted a one-over, 73, Friday and is tied 28th overall.  Singh hails from New Delhi, India

The trio of Sandy Choi, Celine Boutier and Lisa Maguire each carded rounds of two-over, 74, and are tied for 36th overall.
Lisa Maguire turned in one birdie, three bogeys and 14 pars. Twin of Leona, Lisa  hit 11 greens, 12 fairways and had a team-best 28 putts
