SPOTLIGHT ON SCOTS GOLFING STUDENTS IN AMERICA

WESTERN NEW MEXICO'S ALL-BRITISH

TEAM TIE FOR SEVENTH PLACE

Western New Mexico University, fielding an all-British team of five, finished seventh of 13 at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State University over its own course at Las Cruces.

Calum Hill, pictured, a third-year student from Kinross, and Anthony McGeorge, a second-year man from Holdsworth, England, were the joint best Western New Mexico players individually in joint 16th place on level-par 213 over a  longish par-71 course of 7,242yd
Hill had rounds of 68, 71 and 74, McGeorge 71, 73 and 69.

The standard of scoring was very good in this tournament. Normally a level par total, especially over a 7,000yd+ course would finish much higher than joint 16th.
Team-mates Tom Neve (72-73-70 for 215), a third-year student from Epsom) finished T25; Harry Wetton (73-75-72 for 220) came joint 43rd, and Ben Skinner (76-75-74 for 225) from Hertfordshire and a former pupil of Loretto School, Musselburgh, finished 61st.
There were other Brits from other universities in the field of 78 players.
Ross Dickson (Nebraska), a final-year student from London), tied for 56th place on 224 (74-76-74).
David Wilson, the 2011 Scottish boys champion from Ayrshire and now a freshman stuident at New Mexico State, finished joint 52nd on 222 (71-73-78).
Three of Wilson's team-mates tied for first place on 206. Playing over their home course, Brett Walker shot 67-70-69, Pat Beyhan (a one-time Western New Mexico star player) 67-72-67 and Luis Medina 68-69-69.
Not surprisingly New Mexico State won the team title comfortably with a total of 834. Sam Houston State (846) were second and Texas State (847) third. Western New Mexico totalled 861 in tying for seventh place.
Western New Mexico freshman Ross White from Dollar, playing as an individual, tied for 61st place with scores of 74, 72 and 79 for 225.

CAMERON MAKES TOP 10 IN OHIO
Alistair Cameron, a freshman from Buckinghamshire and a student at Davis and Elkins College, Elkins in West Virginia, finished 10th in a field of 40 players at the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Beavercreek, Ohio.
Over a par-72 course of 7,071yd, Cameron had rounds of 77 and 80 for a total of 157 - nine shots behind the winner by four, Jacob  Forsythe (Cedarville) (71-77 for 148).
Davis and Elkins College finished third behind Cedarville and Kentucky Wesleyan in the team event.
