REIGNWOOD LPGA CLASSIC

STACY LEWIS'S  LATE FIVE-BIRDIE

BLITZ LEADS IN CHINA

FROM THE LPGA TOUR WEBSITE
World No 1 female pro Stacy Lewis birdied five of her last seven holes to take the lead with a seven-under-par 66 in the first round of the Reignwood LPGA Classic at the beautiful Reignwood Pine Valley Golf Club in Nankou, Beijing, China.
“The grouping today was fun.” Lewis said. “I always like playing with Inbee and Suzann (Pettersen). If you play with the best players in the world, that makes you better. I don’t know if it made me elevate my game and play a little bit a better, but we had great crowds out there, I thought, for a first round.”

Lewis clearly got the best of Park and Pettersen, but there wasn’t much they could do to keep up with her birdie barrage over the last seven holes. It’s early, but with Lewis playing patiently she may be tough to catch.

“You learn you just got to stay patient.” Lewis said. “You’re not going to go shoot a 66 or 65 every single day. Yeah, I want to be in the lead. That’s where I want to be. I want to be in the lead coming up 18 on Sunday as well. It’s a good start, but we have a long way to go."

Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall  got off to a great start with birdies on the first two holes and finished the day with a six-under 67, only one behind leader Lewis.

But for a bogey on the par-4 fifth hole, she would share the overnight lead with Lewis.
Ranked 52 in the World Rankings, the Swede, who is yet to record a top-10 finish on tour this year added, “I’m really happy with my game today. I started off with two birdies and felt like I was on a roll there. I had quite a few birdie opportunities on the back nine and kept playing well. It was nice to finish off with a birdie as well. Just really happy.”

 Catriona Matthew had a one-under--par 72 for a share of 20th place.
Laura Davies is T52 after a 75.
