MURIEL THOMSON HONOURED BY PORTLETHEN GOLF CLUB

Portlethen Golf Club captain Ian Cruickshank unveils a plaque to name the Portlethen Golf Club's Conference Room "The Muriel Thomson Lounge."
Muriel told Kirkwoodgolf:
"I am feeling very chuffed an honoured this morning after last night's prize giving at the club when the captain unveiled the plaque."
Muriel is the only club professional Portlethen Club has ever had. She was appointed in April 1990 and will retired from the post at the end of this year
Muriel, a Curtis Cup and Vagliano Trophy player for GB and I as an amateur, won nine times on the women's pro tour which was the forerunner of the present Ladies European Tour.
She finally suffered "burn-out" and quit competitive golf, saying she was tired "of living out of a suitcase."
She had not job lined up but, out of the blue, Portlethen Golf Club, which had been recently formed, invited her to be its first club pro.
Muriel was the first female club professional. Karyn Dallas later became Kirriemuir GC pro and is still there, but Miss Thomson and Portlethen can claim to be the trail-blazers/
