LEGENDS TOUR NEWS RELEASE
The LPGA Legends Tour has presented its annual Colleen Walker Spirit Award to LPGA veteran player Heather Drew (pictured below).

The Colleen Walker Spirit Award recognizes the player who best exhibits the tenacity, determination and never-give-up attitude that Walker demonstrated throughout her life and career.

A committee comprised of several Legends Tour players and members of Walker’s family selects the annual award recipient. That individual is honoured each November at the tour’s final tournament.

A native of St. Louis and a current resident of Bermuda Dunes, California, Drew was honoured by her peers during the recent Walgreens Charity Championship in Delray Beach, Florida

“To receive this award in Colleen's name is a great honour and I hope going forward in my life, I can handle my Multiple Sclerosis with the grace and dignity that Colleen would expect of me,” said Drew, who played for more than a decade on the LPGA Tour.

At age 37 and during her 13^th year on the LPGA Tour, Drew was 

diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). 

Drew stopped competing, but returned to the game in 2004 to 

compete on the Legends Tour. She caddied in 13 LPGA Tour events 

in 2006, and in 17 LPGA tournaments in 2007, and has continued 

her involvement with the Legends Tour.

“I’ve come to realize that having a diagnosis of MS doesn’t mean 

you have to stop pursuing your passions,” added Drew. “By making 

a few adjustments, I’ve been able to stay active in golf.”

Drew vows to continue being an advocate for others with MS, speaking freely about continuing to live an active life in spite of the diagnosis.

“I kind of feel that Colleen is by my side, telling me everything will be okay,” added Drew, who played collegiately at the University of Arizona. “To have my LPGA Legends Tour family give me this award means so much and I will try my best to uphold Colleen’s attitude and fighting spirit.”    

Colleen Walker was a nine-time LPGA Tour champion and Florida State University Sports Hall of Fame member who died of breast cancer at age 56 in December 2012.
