AUSSIE-SCOT KARIS WINS GREG
NORMAN JUNIOR MASTERS
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Innerleithen-born Karis Davidson continues to live up to her rating as Australia's No 1 Under-18 girl golfer.
Recent winner of the Queensland girls' title, the Scottish 16-year-old, who emigrated with her parents from their Tweed Valley home to Australia eight years ago, this week won the prestigious Greg Norman Junior Masters' girls' title.
Playing over three courses on the Queensland Gold Coast, Davidson had rounds of 73, 70, 71 and 68 for a seven-under-par total of 288.
She had six birdies on the outward half of her final round, winning the title by six shots from Jiwon Jeon who beat Karis in a play-off for the same title 12 months ago.
Karis's latest victory earns her a place in the Ladies Volvik Masters, a professional event, at Royal Pines Golf Club, Queensland in February.
Davidson is the highest ranked Scottish-born player in the Women's World Amateur Rankings at No 55 and would be a contender for a place in the GB and Ireland Vagliano Trophy (2015) and Curtis Cup (2016) matches if she were available.
But her mother Faye says that Karis sees her future in Australian golf and would rather play for their international team.
Next month, GB and I defend the Astor Trophy at an Adelaide, South Australia venue against Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa.
The Australian team has not been announced yet.
