INNERLEITHEN-BORN, EMIGRATED TO QUEENSLAND

SCOT KARIS IS RANKED NUMBER ONE GIRL
GOLFER IN AUSTRALIA

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
A 16-year-old Scottish girl, Karis Davidson, has won the Suncoast Ladies Open - one of Queensland's biggest women's amateur golf tournaments - over 54 holes, equalling the Headland Golf Course women's record of two-under-par 71 in the final round to win the prestigious title by one stroke.
Davidson is now ranked the No 1 girl golfer in Australia and No 53 in the Women's World Amateur Rankings.
There is a very good chance that she will be selected for Australia's team of five for next month's Astor Trophy international women's team match-play tournament at Adelaide.
Great Britain and Ireland are the title holders. Also in the field will be teams from New Zealand, Canada and South Africa.
Innerleithen-born Karis emigrated with her parents to Queensland seven years ago.
