STUDENT FROM SOUTHEND JUST OUTSIDE TOP 30

DULCIE SVERDLOFF IS BEST OF

BRITISH AT LADY PALADIN TOURNEY

Dulcie Sverdloff from Southend, a second-year student at Kennesaw State University, was the "Best of British" in this past week's Lady Paladin Invitational 54-hole college tournament over the Furman University golf course at Greenville, South Carolina.

Dulcie (pictured) shot rounds of 77, 73 and 76 to finished T31 on 226 over a par-72 course of 6,266yd. There were 96 players in the field.
Emily Royer from Maidstone, Kent, freshman student at Georgia State, finished T50 on 230 with scores of 70, 80 and 80. Wonder what made the difference between her excellent, two-under-par opening round and her pair of 80s after that?
Elizabeth Mallett from Sutton Coldfield, a third-year student at North Carolina University, had scores of 78, 77 and 78 for 233 and joint 59th place.
Former Scottish Under-21 champion Nicola Callander from Mill Green, Hertfordshire, finished T91 on 246 but there is hope that she has turned the corner in her freshman year at Southern Mississippi.
After starting with scores of 88 and 83, Nicola, daughter of golf writer Colin Callander, posted a respectable 75 which should do Nicola's confidence a power of good.
Taylor Totland (Furman) won by five shots over her home course with scores of 70, 68 and 71 for a seven-under-par total of 209.

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – Behind a record-breaking performance, the Florida Tech Panthers won the team championship by the comfortable margin of 22 shots at the Lady Falcon Invitational college tournament at LPGA International, Daytona Beach.
Sophomore Guro Rambjoer also took home her first career individual championship.
The Panthers shot a final round 291 for a tournament total of 590. The single round score and the two-round total set new program records.

Senior Rachel Polson from Peterculter, Scotland put together an outstanding round of one-under-par with a score of 71. It was a six-shot improvement on her opening round and proved to be the lowest score by anyone in the field of 43 over the two days.
Not only was it a key performance for Florida Tech, Rachel finished joint second on 148 over a par-72 course of 6,117yd.
Rambjoer equalled her first-day  score with a final round even-par 72. Junior Felicia Leftinger had  a final round of 73, and sophomore Johanna Larsson recorded a closing 75.
Sophomore Karolyne Shieh also shot a final round 75, and improved by four shots over her first round score.
“I could not be any more proud of how the girls played and battled,” head coach Chris Saltmarsh said. “To shoot the program records for single round and 36-holes was outstanding. I have seen them play like this in practice, and it was nice to see it happen in a tournament. Our maturity has helped us get better, and the numbers we put up are contending numbers, which is where we want to be.”
All three Panthers playing as individuals improved on their first round performances. Freshman Halla Ragnarsdottir and sophomore Sarah Thomas both shot rounds of 80. Senior Jara’ Templet finished her tournament with a round of 83.
Seminole State College finished second behind the Panthers with a team score of 611. Rambjoer finished the tournament at even-par, and took home the individual championship by four shots over three players, including Polson and Larsson, who tied for second place..
“Guro did a great job with two rounds of 72,” Saltmarsh said. “That was her goal coming in, and it put her on top of the leaderboard. To have both the team and individual championships, it was a terrific effort all around.”
“We are still learning and getting better which is fun to see,” Saltmarsh said. “We are looking forward to the trip to Michigan next weekend, and what this season has in store.”

Final Standings:
1. Florida Tech (299-291-590)

2. Seminole State (309-302-611)
3. Daytona State (309-304-613)
4. Florida Southern (315-309-624)

HOME WIN FOR GLENBERVIE COUPLE

32nd SCOTTISH MIXED FOURSOMES

GOLF COMPETITION

FINALS

Glenbervie Golf Club

Press Release
Forty-three teams contested the Save the Children 32nd Scottish Mixed Foursomes Golf Competition at Glenbervie, coming from as far afield as Strathpeffer and Southerness and all parts in between.

On a calm warm day on a course in excellent condition the scoring was good with only 3pts covering the top six teams.
Pride of place went to Glenbervie couple Isobel (handicap 36) and Richard Johnston (scratch) whose fine score of 37pts edged out Kathy Gold (handicap 25) and Douglas Jamie, who plays off 13 at Dundas Parks), and Sheila (handicap 25) and Gordon Aitken, who plays off nine at Killin.  The runners-up each totalled 36 Stableford points.
Troon Welbeck (£350) won the prize for the largest amount raised at their qualifying event with Kinghorn (£340) close behind.Richard, the 2002 Lothians Champion of Champions, is no stranger to the winning circle but wife Isobel set the scene by rolling in a birdie putt at the first hole and the show was well and truly ‘on the road’.
As usual the Glenbervie club made everyone very welcome with the greenkeeping staff out early preparing the course, the catering and pro shop teams on hand to give friendly assistance and all orchestrated by secretary Ian Webster.

Ian is retiring soon and the Save the Children Team would like to take this opportunity to thank him for many years of assistance in organising this event at Glenbervie.

Although numbers were down a bit on recent years, the event still raised over £5,000 to support the vital and much appreciated work done by the charity in Scotland and around the world.

Save the Children are keen to involve new clubs in 2015 and if anyone is interested please contact Louise Fiermonte (L.Fiermonte@savethechildren.org.uk)

"THIS IS AN ENORMOUS PRIVILEGE"

Diane Bailey MBE to be next President of the

Ladies’ Golf Union

NEWS RELEASE
The Ladies’ Golf Union is pleased to nominate Mrs Diane Bailey MBE as President of the Union.  The term of office of the current President, Mrs Brigid McCaw, expires at the Annual General Meeting in February 2015, and Diane will take up post at that meeting.

Diane was a top amateur player, who won the British Girls’ Championship in 1961 and was runner up in the Ladies British Amateur Championship that same year.
She represented England in the 1960s and ‘70s, and was capped for Great Britain and Ireland in the Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe, the World Team Championship (Espirito Santo Trophy) and twice in the Curtis Cup match against the United States.
These international team matches have always had a special place in Diane’s heart, and she followed up her playing career with a successful run as Captain of the Great Britain and Ireland team from 1983 to 1988.
Two wins over Europe in the Vagliano Trophy matches of 1983 and 1985, and a very close Curtis Cup match at Muirfield in 1984 which Great Britain and Ireland narrowly lost by one point, demonstrated Diane’s increasing special captaincy skills.
She was invited to lead the Curtis Cup team again in 1986 at Prairie Dunes in Kansas USA, and was proud to captain her players to the first ever victory on American soil for any Great Britain and Ireland team, male or female, amateur or professional.
The magnitude of this win was recognised when Diane was awarded
the Golf Writers Trophy in 1987.
Diane’s final captaincy was in 1988, where her team again won against the USA, this time at Royal St Georges’ in England, and that same year she was awarded an MBE for services to golf.
She continued to give back to the game that she loves at club and county level, and more recently she served as President of the English Ladies’ Golf Association in 2006 and 2007. She is a Vice President of her golf club Reigate Heath, while her contributions to the game have also seen her appointed an honorary member of that club, and of both Enville and Walton Heath.
Husband John and her children and grandchildren are
delighted at Diane’s nomination as President of the Ladies’ Golf
Union and offer their full support in her term of office.
Diane says “I am honoured and so delighted to have been invited to become President of the Ladies Golf Union.
"Golf has always been such an important part of my life and to be given this great opportunity to represent and support women’s golf and the Ladies’ Golf Union is an enormous privilege. I will do my utmost to uphold the values and traditions of the game that we all love so much.
"The Past Presidents of the LGU have always set such a good example and high standards and I know I have very hard acts to follow, but I look forward to the challenges, to renewing old acquaintances and to meeting many lady golfers at events throughout Great Britain and Ireland during my two years as President.
"I look forward to working with the dedicated team at the Ladies’ Golf Union. Golf has given me so much pleasure and I can hardly believe I have been playing this great game for over 60 years. It’s been a wonderful journey and I very much look forward to continuing it as President of the Ladies Golf Union throughout the next two years.”
