Chloe Ryan halfway leader in Portugal
Ireland's Chloe Ryan (Castletroy) is the halfway leader in the 85th Portuguese women's international amateur championship at Montago Hotel and Golf Resort.
Chloe shot a second-round, four-under-par 68 - an improvement of six shots - for a two-under-par tally of 142 - one shot ahead of Lucrezia Rosso (Italy), Clara Aveling (Belgium), Carlotta Ricolfi (Italy) and English-born Olivia Cowan (Germany).
Ryan, starting at the 10th, had a superb opening holes of only 32 shots with birdies at the 14th, long 15th, 16th and short 18th. She also birdied the fourth and had her only bogey at the sixth in par 36 for her second nine.
Emily Slater is the leading English player in T7 position on 145. She too had a second-round 68, which was nine shots better than Day 1.
Scottish champion Gabrielle Macdonald, a St Andrews University student, did not have a good day in returning a 79 for 155 and joint 44th position.
Only the leading 40 and ties after 54 holes will advance to Saturday's final round, so Gabrielle needs to get her A game out for the Friday round.

MacDonald is on the same mark as Scottish U21 champion India Clyburn (Woodhall Spa) who slashed nine shots off her first-round score with a 73. But, like Gabrielle, India needs to improve a bit more to make the qualifiers for the final day.
Irish champion, left-hander Mary Doyle, is unlikely to survive the cut after rounds of 82 and 80 for an uncharacteristic tally of 18-over-par 162. She is lying 75th in the field of 89 players.
