DRYBURGH, DUNNE SHARE SECOND PLACE IN PERU
Gemma Dryburgh, runner-up to Lucia Gutteriez (Peru) in last year's South American women's amateur championship, finds herself in the same position 12 months later at the halfway stage of the 2015 championship at Lima, Peru.
The Aberdeen-born Curtis Cup player and student at Tulane University, New Orleans has had rounds of 74 and 73 for 147, sharing second place with Ireland's Maria Dunne (78-690 and Mexico's Maria Fassi (72-75), four shots behind the defending champion, Lucia Gutteriez (71-72 for one-under 143).
Jess Meek from Carnoustie, a student at the University of Missouri, is T7 on 153 (77-75)
Another Irish player, Paul Grant is T13 on 153 (77-76).
Dryburgh birdied the long second, short 11th and 16th but she also had a double bogey 6 at the 10th and bogeys at the third and 14th in her second-round, one-over 73.
Maria Dunne birdied the second, third, fifth and sixth in an outward half of 32. She dropped shots at the 12th and 16th but birdied the long 17th for a 69.
Meek had eventful round of four birdies and two double bogeys. She birdied the long second, third, fifth and long 17th but she had double bogeys at the par-4 sixth and par-5 seventh. She also bogeyed the fourth, eighth and 14th.
Grant had a doub le bogey 7 at the long first and also bogeyed the fifth and eighth on her way to an outward half of 40. She continued to shed strokes to par at the 11th and 14th but finished on a high with an eagle 3 at the long 17th.
